Girona residents sue over plan to build on park near new Hospital Trueta
Two neighbourhood platforms – the Associació de Veïns i Veïnes de Can Gibert del Pla and the Associació Puput – have filed administrative lawsuits against Girona’s urban plan for the area surrounding the future Hospital Trueta. The plan, approved seven months ago, would allow apartments, hotels and offices to be built on part of the Jordi Vilamitjana park, removing roughly 13,000 m² of municipal green space that the groups say should serve as a climate refuge.
The platforms argue that the award‑winning campus design for the new health campus does not place any hospital buildings inside the Girona municipality, making the council’s modification “unjustifiable”. They also criticize the city council for not consulting them in the past five months and demand an alternative plan that fully preserves the park.
If the legal challenge succeeds, the park would remain intact; otherwise, the development could proceed as currently outlined.
