Gironde megafire prompts celebrity fundraising concert and donations

A massive forest fire in the Gironde department of France has burned more than 42,000 hectares in under two weeks. French actors and internet personalities have rallied to support the victims. Actor Guillaume Canet posted a video urging donations to the French Red Cross, the Fondation de France and Secours Populaire, while YouTuber Léna Situations pledged to raise €62,000 through a daily running challenge, matching contributions from the sports brand Asics.

To further aid the reconstruction, a charity concert titled “SOS Solidarité Incendies” will be held on 27 August at the Arkéa Arena in Floirac, near Bordeaux. The event will feature more than a dozen French singers, including Renaud, Zazie, Julien Clerc, -M-, Pascal Obispo and others, with all ticket proceeds earmarked for the fire‑affected communities. Organisers expect the large venue, which seats over 11,000, to generate significant funds for the displaced residents and firefighting services.
