Portuguese municipalities receive Viver em Igualdade awards

Several Portuguese municipalities have been honored with the Viver em Igualdade award for the 2026–2027 biennium. The distinction, awarded by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), recognizes best practices in promoting gender equality, citizenship, and non-discrimination within local governance and community initiatives.

Among the recipients are Vila de Rei, Famalicão, Barcelos, and Abrantes. Notably, Abrantes has received the award for eight consecutive years, while Barcelos has been recognized for four consecutive years. The awards were presented during a ceremony held on October 26 at Casa da Música in Porto. In total, 57 local authorities, including 56 municipalities and one parish council, were distinguished in this eighth edition of the initiative.
