GIS recalls smoked cheese due to Listeria contamination

The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) has issued an urgent warning regarding the recall of 'Gałka wędzona' rennet cheese due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The contaminated product is produced by MLECZ SERY GÓRSKIE SP. z o. o., located in Jabłonka, and distributed by Koszyk Kinga Masny-Wojtaszek in Bielsko-Biała.

The specific affected batch is number 223. 2026/M, with an expiration date of September 30, 2026. Authorities have suspended production of the cheese until safety can be confirmed and are investigating the source of the contamination.

Consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to listeriosis, a serious bacterial disease. The infection is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, and immunocompromised individuals, potentially causing meningitis, encephalitis, or sepsis. Consumers are advised not to eat the product and to seek medical attention if symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, nausea, or vomiting occur.
