Giselda Trigueiro Hospital power failure forces ICU patient transfers
A power failure at the Giselda Trigueiro State Hospital in Natal, Brazil, has forced the transfer of intensive care unit (ICU) patients who require mechanical ventilation. The incident occurred on Saturday morning following a short circuit in the hospital's power panel.
The Rio Grande do Norte State Health Secretariat (Sesap) reported that the short circuit also affected the hospital's generator, which had undergone preventive maintenance only four days prior. As a contingency measure, patients depending on life-support equipment are being moved to other public hospitals within the state network through assisted procedures.
Technical engineering and maintenance teams have been mobilized to identify the causes of the failure and restore electricity. Sesap noted that a complete restructuring of the hospital's electrical network is currently a priority for the facility.
