Git prepares for version 2.56 release and potential 3.0 update
The Git source-code management system is preparing for the release of version 2.56, expected around late September. This release includes over 700 non-merge commits and introduces several functional improvements.
Key updates include the addition of the 'drop' subcommand to the experimental 'git history' toolbox, which allows users to remove specific commits and replay subsequent history. Additionally, the 'git status' command will now suggest 'git pull' when a branch lags behind its tracked branch, and the 'git refs' command has gained new subcommands for creating, deleting, updating, and renaming references.
These incremental changes serve as a precursor to the anticipated Git 3.0 release.
