GitHub Copilot integrates natively with JetBrains IDEs

GitHub Copilot has launched as a native agent within JetBrains IDEs, moving beyond previous plugin-based availability to provide a more seamless integration. Announced during Microsoft Build, this update aims to reduce configuration time and allow developers to access AI capabilities directly within their existing workflows.

This integration is part of JetBrains' broader AI strategy, which focuses on maintaining an open ecosystem. Rather than restricting users to a single model, JetBrains intends to allow various AI agents and models, including GitHub Copilot and JetBrains AI Assistant, to function within the same development environment, offering developers greater choice in their tooling.
