GitHub Copilot to switch to usage-based pricing in June
GitHub announced that Copilot subscriptions will transition from fixed, flat-rate plans to a usage-based pricing model starting June 1. The Copilot Pro and Pro+ plans will remain priced at $10 and $39 per month, respectively, while Business and Enterprise per-seat rates stay at $19 and $39 per seat. Costs will be driven by token usage rather than a fixed allotment.
The change replaces the previous Premium requests with GitHub AI Credits, making token consumption determine the costs for users. As part of the transition, companies will receive temporary extra credits to ease the switch.
Industry observers describe the move as part of a broader shift away from flat-rate AI coding plans, signaling a potential end to the era of cheap AI coding for many developers."
