GitHub expands Copilot capabilities with new SDK and Teams integration

GitHub is expanding the capabilities of GitHub Copilot through new SDK releases and integrations with Microsoft Teams. The GitHub Copilot SDK allows developers to integrate the Copilot engine directly into their own applications, such as console apps or web backends. This enables the AI to perform autonomous tasks like planning, tool selection, and file editing based on plain English instructions.

Additionally, GitHub Copilot is introducing a feature for Microsoft Teams that transforms chat conversations into shared coding sessions. By mentioning @GitHub, users can launch a session where participants can provide context and influence the AI's work. While the AI can generate code and artifacts, repository administrators can maintain control by requiring additional human approvals for pull requests created by the integration. This feature is currently in public preview for customers with paid GitHub Copilot plans.
