GitHub expands Copilot with slash commands and releases Eclipse nightly build
GitHub has added slash commands to the Copilot app, allowing developers to invoke actions such as /plan, /spar and /autopilot directly from the interface. These commands provide quick shortcuts for task planning, risk‑assessment and automated code generation, extending the AI‑assistant beyond simple chat prompts.
A nightly build of GitHub Copilot for Eclipse is also available, offering the latest patches and experimental features. The Eclipse version includes code completions, chat assistance, an autonomous Agent Mode that can detect and fix errors, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) which connects Copilot to external tools. The build is intended for developers who want early access, while a stable release channel remains available. Both updates aim to embed AI more deeply into developers’ daily workflows.
