GitKraken report: 84% of developers see productivity gains from AI

A report by Axosoft, through its GitKraken tool, reveals that 84% of developers feel AI coding tools have improved their productivity. While 43% reported significant improvements, a notable gap exists in organizational measurement: only 20% of surveyed organizations have methods to quantify these productivity gains, and 39% lack any means to measure the effect.

The report highlights a rapid shift toward AI agents. The proportion of developers using agents for task delegation rose from 7.6% in September 2025 to 28% by June 2026. Currently, two-thirds of developers use agents at least occasionally. Productivity gains are most pronounced among ‘agent-native’ teams, where 62% reported significant improvements, compared to 28% among assistive users.

Data suggests that larger enterprises are more integrated into AI workflows. Approximately 47% of developers in large companies run agents continuously throughout the workday, compared to 32% in small and medium-sized enterprises. Large companies also show higher rates of using engineering metrics like DORA to track performance.
