Gitta Lindemann, journalist and mother of Till Lindemann, dies at 87

Brigitte “Gitta” Lindemann, a prominent German journalist, poet, and author, has passed away at the age of 87. Her family confirmed to the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) that she died on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at her home in Nordwestmecklenburg.

Lindemann had a significant career in German media, having studied journalism in Leipzig and worked for East German broadcasting in Neubrandenburg and Rostock. From 1992 to 2002, she led the cultural editorial department for NDR in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. She was also an accomplished writer, recently presenting her poetry volume “Lautlos” at the Leipzig Book Fair.

She was the mother of Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann and the widow of the late GDR writer Werner Lindemann. In her 2023 autobiographical book, “Meine Fensterplätze,” she wrote a personal tribute to her son. Reports indicate that Till Lindemann remained by her side during her final weeks after she was unable to attend a scheduled event celebrating her late husband's centenary due to health reasons.
