Giuditta D'Elia assaulted in Bari park; restroom caretaker and partner investigated

On 23 July 2026, 26‑year‑old university student Giuditta D'Elia was violently attacked near the public restrooms in Parco Rossani, Bari. She suffered a fractured nasal septum and an orbital‑wall fracture, with doctors estimating a 40‑day recovery period.

Local police, using CCTV footage, identified the park restroom caretaker and her companion as the principal suspects. Both have been entered in the prosecution’s register of suspects on charges of serious injuries and robbery. The investigation also includes several minors who, according to the victim, may have taken part in the attack. Bari’s mayor, Vito Leccese, has suspended the caretaker from her duties while the case proceeds.

The assault, captured by surveillance cameras and reported to the magistrate, has prompted a police‑led inquiry and a public‑health response, but the case remains under investigation.
