Giugliano and Gabicce Mare face illegal waste dumping crises

Residents of Via Palizzi in Giugliano, Campania, have described the street as an open‑air landfill piled with construction debris, plastic drums, metal sheets and abandoned vehicles. They report rat infestations and fear that waste may have been buried underground, raising health concerns for local children. Green‑politics deputies Francesco Emilio Borrelli and regional councillor Carlo Ceparano have formally asked the municipality for a full cleanup, technical investigations and the removal of the abandoned cars, stating, “This scandal is the result of a culture of abandonment that favours illegality and crime.”

In Gabicce Mare, Marche, the municipal waste service notes a surge of illegal dumping of black bags and bulky waste around ecological islands, especially on Via Ferrata, Tavollo and Case Badioli. After the removal of a waste container on Via Cardellino, littering increased, prompting the council to double collection frequency for nearby islands and warn that repeat offenders face fines up to €1,000. Authorities are urging residents to use free bulky‑waste pickup services and to respect civic duties.
