Giugliano nursery faces investigation over alleged child mistreatment

Approximately twenty families in the province of Naples have filed complaints with the Carabinieri following allegations of child mistreatment at the private nursery 'Il Rifugio del Sorriso' in Giugliano. The investigation was triggered by audio recordings, totaling about four hours, which were reportedly captured by hiding a device in a two-year-old child's backpack.

The recordings allegedly contain offensive language, threats, and sounds consistent with slapping and children crying. One parent initiated the recordings after noticing behavioral changes in their child, including self-harming behaviors, irregular sleep, and covering their ears when adults spoke.

Authorities are currently examining the authenticity of the files and attempting to identify the voices recorded. The nursery's management has provided internal surveillance footage to investigators and denied the allegations, noting that the timing and context of the recordings remain unverified. Protests by concerned parents recently took place in front of the facility, requiring intervention by local law enforcement.
