Giugliano schools remain closed following Casacelle fire
Schools in the Casacelle area of Giugliano remain closed following a large fire that broke out on September 15. Mayor Diego D’Alterio has issued an ordinance extending the closure of four educational institutions through September 18 and 19 due to persistent smoke and acrid odors.
The affected schools include the V Circolo Didattico (both the via Pigna headquarters and the viale dei Gemelli branch), the “Antonio Gramsci” middle school, and the “Renato Cartesio” state high school, all located in the via Selva Piccola area. Local authorities noted that residual combustion and poor air quality have rendered classrooms and outdoor spaces unhealthy for students and staff.
In response to the ongoing situation, the municipality has planned sanitization procedures for the affected buildings once air quality assessments are complete. Meanwhile, local residents and students have organized protests to express concerns regarding safety and the environmental impact of the fire, with a public demonstration scheduled for Saturday in front of the Renato Cartesio high school.
