Giulia Cecchettin honored through protests and art in Italy

Commemorations and artistic tributes have been held in Italy to honor Giulia Cecchettin and protest gender-based violence.

In Padua, approximately 200 students and citizens gathered in Piazza Portello to mark the second anniversary of her death. The demonstration included a “minute of noise” using bells, chains, and keys to demand social change and justice. Participants highlighted the ongoing issue of patriarchal culture and persistent gender violence.

In Milan, the artist Tvboy unveiled a mural outside the Mudec museum dedicated to Cecchettin. The artwork depicts her drawing a heart with the inscription “love = respect,” intended to promote the concept of healthy, non-controlling relationships. The project was a collaboration with the Fondazione Giulia Cecchettin, which aims to raise awareness and educate on the topic of violence against women. The proceeds from the future sale of the mural will support the foundation.
