Giulia Scimone funeral held at Messina Cathedral after fatal traffic crash

Sixteen‑year‑old Giulia Scimone was killed on 28 June when a motorcycle struck her on Via Circuito in Torre Faro, Messina. The city declared a day of mourning and, on 4 July, her funeral was held at 16:30 in the Messina Cathedral. Flags on municipal buildings were lowered to half‑mast and a minute of silence was observed as the community gathered to pay respects.

Mayor Basile ordered the citywide mourning, encouraging residents, public offices, businesses, and local groups to observe the minute of silence. Various local activities, including a beach gathering by Stretto Swim, paused in solidarity. Police continue the investigation, focusing on the 19‑year‑old rider Alessandro Mondo who was driving the motorcycle involved in the crash.
