Giuliano Saponi investigation archived after hit-and-run conclusion

An investigation into the May 7, 2023, incident involving Giuliano Saponi has been archived by a judge, concluding that he was struck by a vehicle rather than the victim of an assault. The decision by judge Raffaella Ceccarelli follows a request from prosecutor Luca Bertuzzi.

Previously, legal representatives had proposed the hypothesis of an attack involving a club. However, new medical-legal and engineering assessments determined that the injuries, damage to Saponi’s bicycle, and traces on the road were consistent with an impact from a moving vehicle.

Investigators also found no evidence linking the incident to Louis Dassilva, who was previously acquitted in the first instance of the murder of Pierina Paganelli. Furthermore, no concrete evidence was found to connect this event to the subsequent crime on via del Ciclamino. The identity of the driver remains unknown, as surveillance footage, phone records, and biological traces failed to identify the vehicle or the person responsible. The case has been closed against unknown persons.
