Giurgiulești truck congestion reaches eight kilometers

Severe truck congestion has reached approximately eight kilometers near Giurgiulești, creating a complex logistical crisis. The buildup involves a combination of port traffic, border crossings, and international transit toward Romania.

On the route toward Galați, the congestion includes 146 Ukrainian trucks—mostly carrying petroleum products—and 80 trucks from Moldova. The situation has become critical for drivers, who report waiting for hours or even days without access to basic necessities such as potable water, food, or toilet facilities. Some drivers must travel up to six kilometers to find supplies, which is difficult as they cannot leave their vehicles without losing their place in line.

Beyond the logistical and humanitarian concerns for drivers, local residents in Giurgiulești are facing significant disruptions. The constant movement and idling of heavy vehicles cause noise, dust, and vibrations that threaten the structural integrity of older homes in the residential area. Local authorities are facing calls to regulate traffic and move the queues out of the town to protect the community.
