Giuseppe Arcidiacono, prominent priest and archivist, dies at 80

Don Giuseppe Arcidiacono, a prominent priest of the Diocese of Acireale, has passed away at the age of 80. He was a central figure in the pastoral life of local communities and a pioneer in preserving the religious history of the region.

From 1967 to 2014, Arcidiacono served as the first director of the Diocesan Historical Archive of Acireale. In this role, he was instrumental in the organization and recovery of the diocese's documentary heritage. Bishop Antonino Raspanti noted that the diocese loses a priest who dedicated himself simultaneously to pastoral care and the conservation of the local Church's historical assets.

Born in Cosentini on February 26, 1946, Arcidiacono was ordained as a priest on October 10, 1971. He was approaching his 55th anniversary of priesthood at the time of his death. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 8, at 9:30 a.m. in the Mother Church of Aci Sant’Antonio.
