Giuseppe Campagna under investigation for attempted murder after hitting cyclists

Giuseppe Campagna, a 73-year-old man, is under investigation for attempted murder after striking six cyclists in Lanzo Torinese on August 8. Following the incident, a judge in Ivrea, Lucrezia Natta, validated his house arrest, citing concerns over his self-control and potential for recidivism.

According to investigative reports, one of the injured cyclists claimed Campagna shouted, “I will kill you all” during the attack. While four of the six cyclists were injured, the investigation is examining whether the incident was a deliberate act following a dispute.

Campagna’s legal defense, led by Tommaso Servetto, maintains that the driver was in a state of distress and claims the vehicle seemed to “move on its own.” The defense argues that the altercation may have originated with other motorists rather than the cyclists. Lawyers have requested a psychiatric evaluation to determine the driver's mental state and awareness during the event.
