Giuseppe Cerone, prominent Italian sports physician and coach, dies at 71

Giuseppe “Peppe” Cerone, a prominent sports physician and football coach in the Marsica region, has died at the age of 71 following a long illness.

Cerone was a well-known figure in the local medical and sporting communities. Professionally, he served as a sports doctor at the San Salvatore Hospital in L'Aquila and the ASL of Avezzano, supporting numerous athletes and clubs.

In the sporting world, he was highly regarded for his coaching roles, specifically with Folgore di Collelongo and San Pelino Calcio. He is credited with leading San Pelino Calcio to significant competitive milestones.

Local officials, including the mayors of Avezzano and Collelongo, as well as CONI Abruzzo, have expressed condolences, noting his dedication to the community and his commitment to local youth and sports.
