Giuseppe Conte confronts Meloni over €100 million mask deal in Covid commission hearing

Former prime minister Giuseppe Conte appeared before the parliamentary Covid‑19 inquiry, describing the commission as a “plotone d’esecuzione” and delivering an anonymously sourced dossier to the Rome prosecutor. The dossier concerns a 2022 verbale on mask supplies from Jc Electronics Italia, a company based in Colleferro and led by entrepreneur Dario Bianchi, and raises questions about a €100 million settlement the government signed with the firm in October 2025 to resolve a legal dispute.

Conte criticised Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, calling her the “regista” of the attacks and demanding a direct political confrontation. Meloni responded on social media, stating that the truth about the pandemic is a right of Italians, not a political weapon, and defended the work of the Covid commission. Jc Electronics denied any new wrongdoing, saying the documents had already been examined by the courts and that the masks had been certified as compliant.

The exchange has intensified a broader political clash over the handling of the pandemic, public procurement, and the use of emergency powers, with both leaders accusing each other of politicising the crisis.
