Giuseppe Conte to be heard by Italy's Covid inquiry commission on Aug. 4

Senator Marco Lisei, president of the parliamentary commission investigating Italy's COVID‑19 response, announced that former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte will appear before the commission on 4 August. Lisei explained that the 5 August date was ruled out because that day falls on a Wednesday, when parliamentary sessions prevent commission meetings.

According to Lisei, the commission’s staff contacted Conte’s office twice on 7 July, twice on 8 July, and again later that day, before finally reaching his secretary on the afternoon of 7 July, who confirmed the 4 August availability. Lisei urged Conte to attend the hearing sincerely and without hostility.

The commission, created to examine the management of the pandemic and related decisions taken during Conte’s tenure as prime minister, views the hearing as a key step in its inquiry.
