Giuseppe Costa returns to prison after mafia ties found
The Milan Surveillance Court has revoked the early release of Giuseppe Costa, a member of the Custonaci mafia family. Costa must now serve a remaining sentence of four years and seven months in prison.
The revocation follows evidence that Costa maintained ties to the Trapani Cosa Nostra. Specifically, the court found that during his detention and subsequent period of early release, Costa received financial support from the mafia organization via Pietro Virga to cover legal expenses. This discovery nullified the benefits previously granted to him for good prison conduct and participation in rehabilitative programs.
Costa was originally sentenced to over thirty years for mafia association and other crimes, including his involvement in the kidnapping of Giuseppe Di Matteo, the son of a state witness. In that case, Costa provided his home to the mafia clan to facilitate the kidnapping.
