Giuseppe Giannone, 76, charged with attempted murder of son in Roca, Italy
On 28 June a violent dispute broke out in a family house in Roca di Melendugno, province of Lecce. Giuseppe Giannone, 76, is accused of threatening his son Luca, 50, with a semi‑automatic pistol and then repeatedly striking him with a 26.5 cm blade fashioned from a tailor’s scissors, inflicting serious chest and abdominal injuries.
Police and emergency services intervened; Luca was taken to surgery and later to intensive care. The investigating judge, Tea Verderosa, accepted the prosecutor’s request for an immediate trial. The hearing is set for 4 November. Luca will be defended by attorney Francesca Conte, while Giuseppe is represented by lawyer Silvio Verri. Prosecutor Maria Grazia Anastasia described the act as pre‑meditated.
