Italy: Court of Cassation upholds conviction for Piercamillo Davigo
The Italian Court of Cassation has issued a final ruling confirming a one-year and three-month suspended sentence for former CSM counselor Piercamillo Davigo. Davigo was convicted of revealing official secrets regarding minutes from the alleged ‘Loggia Ungheria’. The court rejected the defense's appeal, upholding the previous decision.
In separate legal developments, the Catanzaro Court of Appeal acquitted Giuseppe Spagnolo of charges related to the 2001 disappearance of Salvatore Di Cicco, overturning a previous 30-year sentence due to concerns regarding the reliability of witness testimonies. Additionally, the Court of Cassation has ordered a reassessment of the Scornaienchi group's alleged mafia status in Cetraro, citing motivational flaws in previous rulings.
Other regional news includes the dismissal of all defendants in an investigation into pier installation irregularities at the Port of Catanzaro, and ongoing investigations by Carabinieri into administrative and medical procedures at the San Giovanni in Fiore hospital.
