GiveWell announces $276 million grant for malaria prevention in DRC

GiveWell has announced its largest grant to date, totaling $276 million, to the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF). The funding is designated for insecticide-treated net campaigns in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The grant will support the purchase and distribution of approximately 92 million nets across all 26 provinces of the DRC between 2027 and 2029. GiveWell estimates that 46 million of these nets would not have been distributed without this specific funding. The organization anticipates that the initiative will avert approximately 67,000 deaths.

This large-scale investment follows extensive research conducted by GiveWell’s team to verify the effectiveness of past campaigns and to assess the malaria burden and net durability within the DRC.
