Gièvres: Six firefighters injured during pétanque tournament

Six firefighters were injured during a pétanque tournament organized by the Gièvres firefighters' association in the Loir-et-Cher department on September 20, 2026. The incident occurred at the municipal stadium when a dispute broke out between a group of participants and the organizing firefighters.

According to Blois Prosecutor Stéphane Javet, the altercation was triggered by a trivial motive. The violence resulted in several individuals sustaining facial contusions from punches, requiring them to be transported by ambulance to the emergency department at the Romorantin hospital for examination.

The perpetrators fled the scene before the gendarmerie arrived. An investigation has been launched by the Romorantin research brigade to identify those responsible. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez addressed the incident on social media, describing the violence as “unacceptable.” The departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis) of Loir-et-Cher has announced its intention to file a formal complaint.
