Gizela Bejek, Slovenia’s 105‑Year‑Old Resident, Celebrates Milestone Birthday

In Slovenia, the vitality of older women is being highlighted both in cultural commentary and local celebrations. Essays note that figures such as Helen Mirren, Iris Apfel and Sophia Loren describe aging as a privilege, emphasizing dignity, confidence and the freedom to pursue new interests after retirement.

At the same time, Gizela Bejek of Lucova, a 105‑year‑old resident of the Gornji Petrovci municipality, marked her centenarian milestone with a family gathering and a public ceremony. The event was attended by mayor Milan Horvat, municipal council member Stanko Lepoša and representatives of the local pensioners’ association, who praised her as the oldest inhabitant of the Pomurje region and wished her continued health.
