Gizem Aytaç transforms carpets into portrait art

Gizem Aytaç, a 35-year-old computer engineer living in Elazığ, Turkey, has developed a unique artistic practice by using carpets as canvases for her portrait paintings. Inspired by her father's drawings during her childhood, Aytaç uses carpet surfaces to depict historical figures, female sultans, and well-known personalities.

Aytaç, a graduate of Fırat University's Computer Engineering department, rediscovered her passion for art during the pandemic. She balances her professional engineering career with her artistic pursuits, working on her pieces during evenings and weekends. Her work, which incorporates traditional Turkish motifs, has gained popularity on social media, leading to international orders for her custom wall carpets.
