GJA President urges journalists to view work as a calling

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has called on media practitioners to view journalism as a “calling” rather than just a profession. Speaking at the Ghana Media Soirée 2026, hosted by the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas), Dwumfour emphasized that the field requires sacrifice, commitment, and continuous professional development.

He urged journalists to move beyond routine reporting by acquiring specialized knowledge and demonstrating excellence to impact society meaningfully. Dwumfour noted that professional awards are designed to recognize those whose exceptional work contributes to national development.

Additionally, the GJA President commended Ghana Gas for its investment in capacity-building initiatives. He stated that such efforts are essential for strengthening media practice within an increasingly digital and information-driven landscape.
