Gjert Ingebrigtsen apologizes for family conflict and takes responsibility
Longtime running coach Gjert Ingebrigtsen has expressed deep remorse regarding the ongoing conflict with his children. Speaking on the Stavanger Aftenblad podcast ‘Jonas’, Ingebrigtsen stated he would offer a heartfelt apology to his children if given the chance, taking full responsibility for the current situation.
While Ingebrigtsen was acquitted of abuse allegations against two of his children last year, he was convicted of one count of assault against his daughter, receiving a 15-day suspended sentence. He noted that while he feels partially acquitted legally, he does not feel acquitted in his own life, stating, ‘This is my fault, not legally, but it is my fault and my responsibility that we have ended up in this situation.’
The rift has had professional consequences; Ingebrigtsen has been denied accreditation for several major international competitions, including the 2024 Olympics and the 2026 European Championships. His sons, Jakob, Filip, and Henrik Ingebrigtsen, have previously indicated they do not wish to meet their father at sporting events.
