Gjert Ingebrigtsen Secures Portuguese Coaching Accreditation for European Athletics Championships

After reports in July that he had ended his coaching career, 60‑year‑old Gjert Ingebrigtsen received official coach accreditation to accompany the Portuguese team at the European Athletics Championships in August. The Portuguese Athletics Federation listed him as the coach for middle‑distance runner José Carlos Pinto and sprinter Patricia Silva, both of whom were previously part of the Viking Athletics group.

The federation confirmed that no notice of a change in the athletes’ coaching staff has been received, and Ingebrigtsen declined to comment. Norwegian athletics officials noted that Ingebrigtsen has not held a coach accreditation through Norway since autumn 2023, highlighting his shift to working with the Portuguese duo.
