Melih Gökçek's family faces allegations of multi-million euro German real estate deals

Journalist Murat Ağırel has released findings alleging that the family of former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek has conducted significant real estate investments in Germany through a company named HAMAG GmbH.

According to the reports, HAMAG GmbH was established in Cologne in 2022 with 30,000 euros in capital by Hülya Gökçek, the wife of Melih Gökçek’s son, Ahmet Gökçek. Despite having no employees or significant commercial turnover initially, the company reportedly received large transfers from Turkey in 2023, including amounts of 722,000 euros and 3.857 million euros.

These funds were allegedly used to purchase an 18-unit building in Düsseldorf for approximately 3.857 million euros, with total costs reaching 4.5 million euros after renovations intended to convert the property into a dormitory. Additionally, the family reportedly signed an 8.5 million euro contract to purchase a shopping center in Velbert, North Rhine-Westphalia, though the deal was reportedly canceled, resulting in approximately 500,000 euros in compensation payments.

Melih Gökçek has denied the allegations, labeling them as “slander” and stating his intention to pursue legal action against Ağırel.
