Gökhan Ağdemir withdraws from Ankara 2 No’lu Barosu election
Gökhan Ağdemir, the current president of the Ankara 2 No’lu Barosu, has withdrawn his candidacy for the upcoming general assembly elections following significant backlash. The controversy stems from comments Ağdemir made during a television appearance, where he stated that the Ministry had granted them privileges and that they had helped approximately 70 bar members become judges and prosecutors over a two-year period.
Opposing groups, specifically the Birlikte Baro Hareketi led by candidate Murat Can Doğan, condemned the remarks. They argued that such statements undermine the dignity of the legal profession and the principles of meritocracy and judicial independence. The movement described the claims as an attempt to overshadow the hard work of lawyers who achieve success through merit rather than through “references, privileges, or networks.”
Ağdemir has defended himself against the criticism, claiming his comments were taken out of context and were part of a biased attempt to create a false perception of his leadership.
