Gökhan Günaydın criticizes Turkey's economic conditions

Gökhan Günaydın, Deputy Group Chairman of the Yeni Party, held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to critique the Medium-Term Program for 2027-2029 and the current state of the national economy.

Günaydın reported significant financial distress among citizens, noting that enforcement file counts have reached 26 million and individual credit and credit card debt has exceeded 7 trillion lira. He stated that approximately 44.5 million people are living with debt. He also highlighted a rise in corporate instability, with 3,529 concordat filings in the first seven months of the year.

The politician described a shift toward a ‘cafe economy,’ where industrial production is declining and manufacturing sectors are moving to countries like Egypt and Morocco, while service-oriented cafes increase. He further noted that at least 30 million people are living below the hunger threshold, which he cited as 37,000 lira, while the poverty threshold stands at 121,000 lira. Additionally, he pointed to a severe housing crisis, noting that Turkey’s rent inflation of 78 percent significantly exceeds that of other European nations like Montenegro and Greece.
