Gökhun Baltacı makes U.S. debut with Tribeca exhibition

Turkish painter Gökhun Baltacı is making his United States debut with the exhibition “A Moonless Plateau” at kaufmann repetto in Tribeca, New York. The show, which is reported to be nearly sold out, features compositions that explore the human psyche, memory, and the subconscious through a symbolic visual language.

Baltacı utilizes oil pastels to create a “velvety atmosphere” and a sense of dust-laden temporality. His works often depict ambiguous, enclosed environments filled with isolated objects and blurred still lifes, creating a meditative quality reminiscent of Morandi’s compositions. The artist noted that his process involves heavy layering, erasing, and scraping of pastels to achieve a painterly texture that moves between dense, tactile surfaces and delicate atmospheric effects.
