GKSR coalition proposes 1 percent parliamentary threshold
The Gerakan Kedaulatan Suara Rakyat (GKSR), a coalition of eight non-parliamentary political parties, has proposed a 1 percent parliamentary threshold for the 2029 elections. This proposal is part of a 200-page academic paper addressing 30 election-related issues, intended to serve as a comparison for the election law revisions currently being discussed by the House of Representatives (DPR).
The coalition, which includes the Labor Party, Hanura Party, Perindo Party, PPP, Partai Ummat, PBB, PKN, and Partai Berkarya, argues that the 1 percent threshold—based on the Taagepera formula—would prevent the exclusion of smaller parties and ensure broader representation. GKSR leader Said Iqbal emphasized that the threshold should consider national joint factions or consensus accords established before the election.
Additionally, the coalition is calling for a simplified political party verification process. They propose that parties already holding seats in the DPR should only need to register without undergoing administrative or factual verification. Non-parliamentary parties that have previously passed both stages would only require administrative verification, while only new parties would undergo the full process.
