Gál Ferenc University hosts international conference on Mohács anniversary

Gál Ferenc University held an international scientific conference to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács. The event, titled “Mohács 500 – Hungary and Europe at the end of the Jagiellonian era. Diplomacy – politics – historical memory,” featured historians from Hungary, Poland, and Italy.

The conference focused on the international diplomatic relations of the era, the cooperation between the Kingdom of Hungary and the Holy See, and the policies of the Polish royal court regarding the Ottoman threat. The gathering served as a significant outcome of the university’s strengthened international partnerships, including recent agreements with the Pontifical Salesian University and Ignatian University in Krakow.

Speakers included University Rector Prof. Dr. László Dux, Vice Rector Dr. József Kovács, and Dr. Karol Biernacki, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland. The event aimed to re-examine the 1526 events within a broader European historical context through the lens of modern historical research.
