Glacier Caravan campaign to monitor Alpine glaciers in France and Italy

The 2026 edition of the 'Carovana dei ghiacciai' (Glacier Caravan), an international campaign organized by Legambiente, is set to monitor the state of Alpine glaciers. The campaign is conducted in scientific partnership with the Fondazione Glaciologica Italiana and in collaboration with CIPRA Italia.

The tour includes several stages across the Alps. In France, the campaign begins at the Grande Motte glacier in the Vanoise National Park. The itinerary then moves to Italy, with a specific focus on the Mont Blanc massif in the Aosta Valley from August 20 to 24.

Activities in the Mont Blanc region will address themes such as retreating glaciers, tourism, and increasing natural risks. The program includes scientific insights into the Miage, Planpincieux, and Brenva glaciers, as well as environmental initiatives like waste collection at the Miage glacier. The campaign advocates for the recognition of glaciers as common goods and calls for stronger European policies regarding mitigation and adaptation to deglaciation.
