Glacier National Park rockfall kills Missouri man

Rex Schowengerdt, a 73-year-old man from Missouri, died following a rockfall accident at Glacier National Park in Montana. The incident occurred on July 11 near Logan Pass while Schowengerdt was traveling in a Jeep with his wife and relatives.

A 45-pound rock broke loose from steep cliffs and crashed through the roof of the vehicle. Schowengerdt, who was sitting in the backseat, sustained a traumatic brain injury. Although he was airlifted to a hospital, he passed away five days later on July 16.

The family had traveled approximately 1,300 miles in an RV to begin a multi-month trip through various national parks.
