Glacier trekking destinations in South America

South America offers several spectacular locations for glacier trekking, particularly within the Andes Mountains. These environments serve as dynamic witnesses to geological and climatic history.

In Argentina, the Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park is a major destination. Spanning 250 km², it is accessible from El Calafate, where visitors can participate in guided expeditions such as "minitrekking" or "big ice" using crampons and helmets. The area also features walking circuits and recent night tours.

Another significant site is the Viedma Glacier, located near the mountain hiking hub of El Chaltén. This glacier covers a surface area of 977 km² and features a ice front approximately 2.5 kilometers wide and 50 meters high.
