Gladyz Butanda accuses Movimiento del Sombrero of politicizing Carlos Manzo murder

Gladyz Butanda Macías, an aspirant to coordinate the Comités en Defensa de la Transformación y la Soberanía Nacional in Michoacán, said the political group Movimiento del Sombrero turned the homicide of former Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo Rodríguez into a political strategy. She argued that the group insists on alleged involvement of public officials despite investigations and arrests that point to organized‑crime actors.

Butanda noted that the case is being used to target Morena politicians, naming Raúl Morón Orozco and Leonel Godoy Rangel. She highlighted the detention of Ramón Ángel “N”, alias “R1”, identified as the presumed intellectual author of the crime, as evidence that authorities are acting without political protection. She called for continued investigations and for anyone linked to criminal activity to be held accountable, regardless of party affiliation.
