Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony Highlights Free TV Impact and Sierra Leone's Historic Performances

The closing ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games was held at Glasgow's OVO Hydro and broadcast on free-to-air television, drawing a large international audience and underscoring the importance of accessible sports coverage. The event featured cultural performances and celebrated the Games' role in uniting viewers worldwide.

Sierra Leone sent a delegation of athletes to compete in five sports, including swimming, boxing, track cycling and triple jump. Although the team did not win a medal, swimmers such as Halle Harris placed 18th in the women’s 50m freestyle, boxer Josefien Betist narrowly missed a podium finish, and cyclists Ibrahim S. Jalloh and Mustapha Koroma posted a top African time in the 4000m individual pursuit. Officials praised the athletes’ resilience and said the experience will help prepare for future Commonwealth Games, including the 2030 edition in India.
