Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games secure University of Stirling partnership and spark athlete program talks

The University of Stirling has entered a strategic partnership with Team Scotland just over a month before the opening of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The agreement will give students volunteering roles at the Games and backs a number of Stirling athletes, including swimmers, gymnasts and a wheelchair‑basketball player. Executive Director of Sport Cathy Gallagher said, “we believe extraordinary performances are built through collaboration,” while Team Scotland CEO Jon Doig added, “we are delighted to mark our years of working together with this official partnership ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.”

A separate meeting reviewing the Commonwealth and Olympic movements also focused on the upcoming Glasgow Games, tracing the history of the events, discussing funding models and comparing them with other competitions such as the Deaflympics and the proposed Enhanced Games. Participants examined issues ranging from doping policies to government and lottery support for athletes, highlighting the broader context in which the 2026 Games will take place.
