Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games swimmers aim for medals

Fifteen‑year‑old British para swimmer Iona Winnifrith, who has already won medals at the Paralympics, World and European Championships, will make her Team England debut in the women's SB8 breaststroke at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. She is a strong medal favourite and is close to breaking the long‑course 100 m breaststroke world record.

Australian swimmers Lani Pallister (24) and Kai Taylor (22), both children of former Commonwealth gold‑medallists, are also preparing for Glasgow. Pallister will contest events from the 200 m to the 1500 m freestyle, the latter being the first women’s 1500 m contested at the Games, while Taylor will race the 100 m and 200 m freestyle and take part in two relays. The Australian Dolphins team will field 60 athletes in Scotland.

Both squads benefit from extensive support programmes, with the UK swimmers receiving National Lottery funding for elite swimming and para‑swimming.
