Glasgow and Dublin selected to co‑host 2030 International Congress of Mathematicians

The International Mathematical Union announced that Glasgow and Dublin will jointly host the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) and its General Assembly in July 2030, the first ever multi‑country edition of the world’s premier mathematics conference. The decision was revealed at the 2026 ICM in Philadelphia, where the latest Fields Medals were also awarded.

The bid, led by the University of Glasgow and Maynooth University together with the Edinburgh, London and Irish Mathematical Societies, won support from more than 50 mathematical organisations and beat competing proposals from Tokyo and Hong Kong. The congress will be held at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow and the Royal Dublin Society, expecting around 6,000 delegates and the awarding of up to four Fields Medals to researchers under 40.

Both the UK and Irish governments have announced a dedicated “Year of Mathematics” for 2030 to highlight the event and promote mathematics education and research across the two nations.
