Glasgow anti‑immigration rally clashes with anti‑racism demonstrators, 15 arrested
On Saturday 25 July 2026 a protest organized by the far‑right group Unite the Clans in Glasgow Green turned violent when anti‑immigration demonstrators met a counter‑demonstration of anti‑racism activists. Police deployed mounted officers, helicopters and crowd‑control tactics to keep the hundreds of participants on each side apart. Punches, projectiles and chants – including Nazi‑style salutes from a few far‑right supporters – were reported. Weapons recovered near a children’s play park suggested that some participants came intending “premeditated disorder, violence and intimidation”. Fifteen people were arrested on charges that included possession of an offensive weapon, assault, breach of the peace, obstruction and resisting arrest. Chief Superintendent Emma Croft said, “We have seen significant disorder from disparate groups… it amounts to violence, intimidation and fear and will not be tolerated.” Police noted that misinformation spread online had helped fuel the tensions. No injuries were reported, and anti‑racism protesters outnumbered the far‑right marchers.
